1. Who operates Ottie
Ottie is operated by Randy Taylor in the United States. Questions, privacy requests, and account-deletion support can be sent to privacy@ottieai.com.
Ottie is intended for adults age 18 and older. It is not directed to children or teenagers. If you believe a person under 18 has created an Ottie account or sent information to Ottie, contact us so we can investigate and delete it.
2. Information that normally stays on your device
Ottie stores most of your ongoing history on your iPhone. Depending on what you choose to use, this can include:
- profile inputs, goals, targets, and preferences;
- food, nutrition, water, weight, and check-in history;
- workouts, exercises, sets, readiness, and progress;
- meal plans, workout plans, saved foods, and custom exercises;
- local product preferences and limited on-device event analytics.
You can use manual food logging, barcode scanning, saved meals, and local history without signing in. Signing in does not automatically upload or erase existing local history. Ottie does not currently provide general cloud synchronization of that history.
If you create an encrypted backup or readable export, you choose where it is saved. Readable exports are not encrypted. You are responsible for protecting exported files and remembering an encrypted backup’s passphrase.
3. Account and service information
Sign in with Apple is optional and is used to connect AI access, usage allowances, and Ottie Plus to an Ottie account. Ottie requests no name or email scopes. When you sign in, Ottie and its service providers process:
- account and installation identifiers;
- sign-in and session records;
- AI usage allowances;
- App Store subscription status and transaction records;
- limited security and operational records used to run and protect the service.
Apple processes Sign in with Apple and App Store purchase information under Apple’s own policies. Ottie never receives your payment-card or bank information.
4. Information sent when you use AI features
When you deliberately ask Ottie to estimate, explain, plan, classify, revise, or chat, Ottie sends only the information needed for that request to OpenAI. Depending on the feature, that may include:
- the text you enter and recent messages in the active conversation;
- a meal or ingredient photo you select or capture;
- calorie and macro targets, remaining totals, and aggregate trends;
- dietary preferences, allergies, dislikes, and planning constraints;
- selected workout, activity, readiness, pain, sleep, or weight-trend context;
- the AI response and any structured draft returned to the app.
OpenAI acts as Ottie’s service provider for AI request processing. OpenAI processes these inputs and outputs to generate the feature you requested. Ottie does not opt in to OpenAI using them to train or improve its models.
Ottie asks for your permission before the first AI request is sent to OpenAI for processing. If you decline or later withdraw that permission, manual logging and other non-AI features remain available, but Ottie cannot send new AI requests. Information processed before withdrawal remains subject to the retention practices described below.
OpenAI may retain limited safety and abuse-monitoring records for up to 30 days, unless longer retention is legally required or reasonably necessary to protect its services or others from harm. Ottie may temporarily keep a limited response for up to one hour solely to prevent an accidental repeated action. You can review OpenAI’s API data controls documentation.
AI output can be inaccurate. Ottie asks you to review food and workout drafts before relying on or saving them. Ottie provides general wellness information and is not a medical service.
5. Apple Health and location
Apple Health
With your permission, Ottie can read selected HealthKit information such as workouts, active energy, exercise minutes, weight, and activity summaries, and can write selected nutrition, weight, or workout entries. You control these permissions in Apple Health and iOS Settings. Health information is not used for advertising or sold. Selected summaries may be included in an AI request only when needed for a feature you choose to use.
Location
If you ask for nearby restaurant suggestions, iOS and Apple MapKit process your location to find nearby businesses. Ottie receives candidate restaurant names and rounded distances, not your precise coordinates. You can deny or later remove location permission in iOS Settings and continue using other features.
6. Food, grocery, and external services
A feature you choose may share limited information with another provider:
- Open Food Facts receives a barcode when you request a barcode lookup.
- USDA FoodData Central receives food-search terms used for verified nutrition matches.
- If you connect Smith’s or Kroger, that provider processes its account authorization, product searches, and cart activity. Ottie keeps the authorization needed to maintain the connection.
- If you choose a Walmart link, your browser opens Walmart and Walmart processes the search under its own policy.
7. Service providers and disclosures
Ottie uses service providers for app-platform functions, cloud operations and security, email delivery, AI processing, and the optional food and shopping features described above. OpenAI processes selected information only when you choose an AI feature. Ottie requires providers that receive user data to provide the same or equivalent protection described in this policy.
These providers process information for their respective services under their own terms and privacy commitments. Information may be processed in the United States and other locations where those providers operate.
Ottie does not sell personal information or health information, use it for cross-app tracking, or share it for targeted advertising. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect people or the service from fraud or abuse, or as part of a business transfer with appropriate notice and safeguards.
8. Support and feedback
If you email support or send feedback from Ottie, your email address, message, mail delivery information, and any attachment you choose are processed by your email provider and delivered to Ottie’s support mailbox. A screenshot may contain health or conversation details, so include only what you are comfortable sharing.
Ottie does not automatically attach your app history, conversations, account identifiers, or diagnostics. You choose whether to attach a screenshot and should review it for private details before sending. Support messages and attachments are retained only as long as reasonably needed to respond, secure the service, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations.
9. Retention and deletion
- Local app history remains until you erase it, remove the app’s data, or replace it through a restore action.
- Account, session, usage, entitlement, and optional-integration records are retained while needed to provide and secure your account.
- After account deletion, Ottie may retain a separate billing-only recovery record for a subscription that may still be active. It contains limited subscription and account-linking identifiers—not profile, health, nutrition, workout, location, or conversation data.
- Expired security and operational records are periodically removed or de-identified when no longer reasonably needed, subject to fraud-prevention, dispute, tax, and legal requirements.
- AI requests follow the limited processing and provider-retention practices described above.
You can initiate account deletion inside Ottie. This deletes the account data Ottie controls and revokes its Sign in with Apple authorization. A billing-only recovery record is used solely to prevent subscription takeover and, if you return, to reconnect eligible subscription access to a new Ottie account with the same verified Apple identity. A different identity cannot use it. Local on-device erasure is a separate choice so deleting an account does not unexpectedly destroy your private history.
This recovery record may be kept while the subscription could remain active and generally for 180 days after Apple reports that it ended. A longer initial window may apply when Apple status notices are delayed. Other limited records may be retained where necessary for legal, transaction-integrity, security, fraud-prevention, tax, or dispute purposes.
Deleting an Ottie account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Apple controls billing, cancellation, and refunds. See the Account & Data Deletion page for steps.

For an access, correction, deletion, or privacy question, email privacy@ottieai.com. We may need to verify control of the relevant Ottie account without asking for your Apple password.
11. Security
Ottie uses reasonable technical and administrative safeguards, including encrypted connections and secure credential storage. No system is perfectly secure. Protect your device, Apple Account, backup passphrases, and exported files, and contact us if you believe your account has been misused.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Ottie changes or legal requirements evolve. The current effective date will appear at the top. Material changes will be communicated in the app or through another appropriate notice before they take effect when required.
